Baseline Blitzing - Gerri Viant / Sue Aery
Platform Tennis Magazine - March 2000

The concept is simple and requires a touch of common sense. The blitz is predominantly used when your partner is able to attack the serve return consistently with a low drive. At most levels of play, the server fails to completely close on the net for the first volley. With a dipping serve return, the volley has to be hit up (figure4).

The key questions you must resolve before each blitz are:

1. Is my partner placing the return low enough and with enough pace to force a poor volley?

2.
Is my partner's return consistently low enough that I can commit earlier?

3. Is my opponent failing to close on the net?
4. Do I have the foot speed and paddle skills to pull it off once I'm set up?
